Holy Spirit, Holy Scripture, Holy Tradition
The Church of the Holy Comforter is a parish of the Episcopal Diocese of Fort Worth, a fellowship of churches under the leadership of a bishop. Since 2008, our diocese is a part of the Anglican Church of North America (ACNA), a province of the Worldwide Anglican Communion, an international family of churches tracing their origins back to the historic Church of England.

The best way to get to know our parish is to visit us in person, and we hope you will join us in our worship and mission!
Our Story
Holy Comforter is one of the oldest parishes of the Episcopal Dicoese of Fort Worth and one of the oldest congregations in the City of Cleburne. As early as 1860, The Right Reverend Alexander Gregg, first Bishop of Texas, visited Johnson County to minister to the people of this area. This parish, the first in the county, was formed in 1871 with the Rev. Robert Nash serving as the first rector of Holy Comforter. The first church building occupied by Holy Comforter was built in 1874. In 1893, under the leadership of The Rev. W.W. Patrick, the present building, at the corner of Wardville and Anglin was built, and has been in continuous use ever since.

Our Vision at Holy Comforter is “Let Your Light Shine” which is inspired by Jesus’ words in the Sermon on the Mount, Matthew 5:14-16:
“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”
This Vision for Holy Comforter is behind every decision and ministry we undertake. As Christians, as bearers of Christ in the world, we are called to shine the light of Christ’s love into the darkness of this world. It is through our witness that Christ is made known, and God is glorified.

Ministry Guide
Ministry Guide
Altar Guild
The Altar Guild works behind the scenes to prepare for worship on Sundays and during the week.
Choir
The Holy Comforter Chorale works to add beauty to our worship through singing traditional anthems, and they help to bolster our congregational singing. Our choir consists of members of the Church and student musicians from Southwestern Adventist University. Choir practice is on Wednesday evenings and is active in the Fall and Spring.
Feed the Hungry
The purpose of this ministry is to provide food for the poor and homeless in Cleburne and the surrounding area. On the third Saturday of each month we provide a free breakfast in the Parish Hall (10am - 12pm) for anyone who stops by. We are always looking for volunteers to assist with serving food or sit with guests. What a great opportunity for evangelism
Ushers
Our Ushers provide security, direction, and overall assistance to the congregation during worship on Sundays.
Altar Party
The Altar Party assists the priest during worship. Duties range from carrying the Cross during processions, to standing at the altar and assisting the Celebrant during Holy Communion. This is an incredible ministry for adults and children (10+).
Daughters of the King
These are our prayer warriors for the Church. Our Daughters of the King dedicate themselves to prayer and service in the Parish and wider community.
Lector
Our Lectors participate by reading the Old and New Testament readings during Sunday worship. This is a great ministry to join if you wish to participate more fully in the liturgy but are a little hesitant to jump into the Altar Party.
